Washington, DC - Congressman Gene Green today announced that the Fiscal Year 2003 Omnibus Appropriations bill before the House of Representatives today contains language funding a new flood control project on Hunting Bayou. The bill is expected to pass both the House today and in the Senate tomorrow.
The Legislation contains $2 million for the Harris County Flood Control District to begin working on this critical flood hazard reduction through the construction of new detention basins and channel improvements.
“Tropical Storm Allison reinforced that the neighborhoods surrounding Hunting Bayou are in real need of the enhanced flood control that this new project will deliver,” said Green. “Over 8,000 homes were damaged or destroyed because the flood waters overran the existing infrastructure in the Hunting Bayou area.” |
