Duncan Announces Grants for Two East Tennessee Fire Departments
For Immediate Release
October 27, 2005
Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr., announced today Department of Homeland Security (DHS) grants for two East Tennessee fire departments.
The City of Loudon Fire Department will receive $167,058, while the Blount County Fire Protection District will receive $79,200.
DHS Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, which will administer the funding, awards one year grants directly to fire departments to improve firefighting operations, enhance firefighter health and safety programs, and expand fire prevention programs.
Loudon's funding will be used to purchase turnout gear, breathing apparatuses, vehicle extrication equipment, a thermal imaging camera, and cardiovascular machines.
Blount County's funding will be used for purchasing self-contained breathing apparatuses, which are the air tanks firefighters use to fight fires.
"I am pleased that this funding will give these brave men and women better protection," said Duncan. "Fighting fires is a very dangerous job and our Nation's fire departments deserve the best equipment available."
