Inslee votes for timetable to end the war

23 March 2007

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee released the following statement after voting in favor of the supplemental Iraq war spending bill, H.R. 1591, which included an Aug. 31, 2008 deadline for bringing American troops home. The measure passed by a margin of 218 to 212.

"America should take the strongest possible action to compel Iraqi politicians to stop bickering and form a functioning government.

"It would be preferable to have an earlier date to end the war, but this bill sets a concrete, enforceable timeline rather than continuing our open-ended commitment. We should take this opportunity to rein in the president's incompetent policies in Iraq."
