WASHINGTON - The House on Tuesday passed legislation that paves the way for the U.S. to sue member nations of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for price-fixing and other anti-competitive practices.
Rep. Steve Chabot, a Westwood Republican and a co-sponsor of the bill, lashed out at OPEC for the high gas prices that have risen to more than $3 in some places.
"In essence, what they are up to is price fixing," Chabot said. "They're colluding to reduce the world's supply of oil and thus drive up the price."
