Chabot Again Makes the Grade, Named ‘Taxpayers’ Friend’ by National Taxpayers Union
April 10, 2008

Washington, D.C. -- For the eleventh straight year, Congressman Steve Chabot (R-Cincinnati) has earned the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” from the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) in recognition of his voting record to reduce wasteful federal spending and provide tax relief to working Americans. Chabot was one of just three members of the Ohio Congressional Delegation to receive an “A” grade.

“I am honored to be recognized for fighting to eliminate wasteful spending, supporting lower taxes and working to reduce the size and scope of the federal government,” said Congressman Chabot. “Lawmakers must recognize that the money we spend in Washington belongs to the taxpayers and that we have been entrusted by those we represent to make responsible decisions.”

The “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” is presented to those members of Congress who achieve an “A” grade in NTU’s annual Rating of Congress. The rating is based on every roll call vote affecting fiscal policy. After analyzing each vote, NTU assigns a “Taxpayer Score” to every member based on their support for reducing or controlling federal spending, taxes, debt, and regulation.  For 2007, a total of 427 House votes were selected.

Chabot joins Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) and Minority Leader John Boehner (R-West Chester) as the only members of the Ohio congressional delegation to score an “A” for their votes in 2007.  This year, just 42 members of the House were honored with the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award.”

The 350,000-member National Taxpayers Union is a non-partisan citizen organization advocating lower taxes, fiscal discipline and accountability at all levels of government.  More information about the 2007 ratings can be found at www.ntu.org.

Over the years, Congressman Chabot has been consistently recognized by non-partisan taxpayer groups, including the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), for his votes to protect tax dollars and limit government spending.
