Chabot Recognizes Local Veterans Prior to Hall of Fame Induction
November 5, 2007

Cincinnati, OH -- Congressman Steve Chabot today recognized Mr. Thomas Anderson and Mr. Thomas Griffin prior to their induction into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.  During the ceremony at Green Township Veterans’ Park, Congressman Chabot presented both men with a letter of recognition and a flag that was flown in their honor over the U.S. Capitol.

“Tom Griffin and Tom Anderson are true heroes for all they have done to serve our country and our community,” Chabot stated.  “They are both truly deserving of the honor of being inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.”

Thomas Anderson is a lifelong resident of Ohio.  He served as a Ranger in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Medal in addition to several other awards.  Mr. Anderson has been very active in a number of veterans organizations and has over 2000 hours of volunteer service at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.

Thomas Griffin served as a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.  In 1942, he participated in the famous Doolittle Raid on Tokyo aboard a B-25 bomber.  In addition, he spent 22 months as a prisoner of war in Germany.  During his service, Mr. Griffin earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, five Air Medals and the Chinese Military equivalent of the Medal of Honor.

Both men belong to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10380 in Green Township.  They will be inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 8, in Columbus.

The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame was created in 1992 by former Governor George Voinovich as a way to recognize Ohio veterans for their distinguished service in the military and their continued post-military service to the community.  Citizens of Ohio can nominate veterans for the Hall of Fame throughout the year.
