PALLONE ANNOUNCES $35,350 FEDERAL GRANT
AWARD FOR NEPTUNE FIRE DEPARTMENT

Neptune District #1 Only Fire Department in NJ to Receive Funding in FY06

Washington, DC --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today announced that the Neptune Fire District #1 has been awarded a $35,350 federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. The SAFER grant is provided with the goal of enhancing the ability of grantees to attain and maintain 24-hour staffing and to assure that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.

The $35,350 grant, which comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will provide the Neptune Fire District with financial support in the hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.

"I am very pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has selected the Neptune Fire District #1 to receive this federal grant," Pallone said.  "These funds will allow Neptune to increase the number of frontline firefighters and to recruit new volunteer firefighters to join the department, making the community an even safer place to live."

The SAFER program provides approximately $103 million each year in competitive grants to fire departments and statewide or local firefighter interest groups. The Neptune Fire District #1 was the only fire department in the State of New Jersey to receive a SAFER grant during this fiscal year.
