Washington, DC –  U.S. Representatives Vic Snyder (AR-02) and Ralph Hall (TX-04) are honored to announce Major James W. Lively was the recipient of the highly prestigious Bronze Star Medal Award. Major Lively is a Congressional Fellow in Congressman Snyder’s office and grew up in Congressman’s Hall's district.

Major Lively, of Dallas, Texas, was presented with the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device for Valor by Brigadier General Michael Regner, the Legislative Assistant to the Commandant of the Marine Corps., at the Longworth House Office Building in Washington, D.C.  Attending the ceremony were Lively’s family from Texas, Fred and Paula Lively and his twin sister Carrie Patterson. His wife Ariel also was present.

Yesterday morning the United States paid tribute to Major Lively for his heroic achievement during Operation Chickamauga in March 2007. Lively served as the senior combat advisor for the Task Force and Iraqi Battalion’s main effort. His leadership was essential to the success of the Iraqi Army and the neutralizing of insurgents.

Major Lively is one of eleven Marines serving in the Congressional Fellowship Program, a program coordinated through the Marine Corps Liaison Office and the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University. After completing one year in Congressman Snyder’s office working with legislative aides on hearing material and background research, he will serve two years at the Pentagon or the Marine Corps Liaison Office.

"Jim is a fine man, fluent in Arabic, and a great contributor to our office," said Congressman Snyder, a Vietnam veteran and member of the House Armed Services Committee. "He is also a fine Marine and it was an honor to participate yesterday."

"We all owe Jim a debt of gratitude," stated Congressman Hall.  "He is a true American hero, and the City of Rockwall, TX, the State of Texas, and the United States are proud of him."  Hall also presented Major Lively a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.
