Congressman Davis, Blue Dogs Outline Responsible Budget Plan March 13, 2003

-- U.S. Representative Lincoln Davis (TN-04) and the Congressional Blue Dog Coalition today announced a fiscally responsible budget plan that would balance the nation's budget, strengthen spending limits and provide needed tax cuts for all Americans.

The Blue Dog plan is an alternative to the President's budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year. Congressman Davis said the President's plan will add to the growing "debt tax" paid by taxpayers.

"As the government amasses debt, interest payments pile up, essentially amounting to a 'debt tax' that can never be repealed and will be paid for by generations to come," Davis said. "The Blue Dog approach restores fiscal discipline by paying down our ballooning debt."

The Blue Dog Coalition, a group of 34 moderate to conservative Democrats, also introduced an economic growth plan within their budget, which offer's tax relief for all taxpayers.

"Our proposal help's all families and small businesses within the 4th District by accelerating a series of tax cuts," Davis commented. "We need a common sense approach to stimulate the economy without endangering the long-term financial outlook."

Davis is a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Science Committees.
