March 1, 2006—The National Journal released their 2005 rankings of members of Congress, and Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) tied with four others as the “Most Conservative” member in the House of Representatives. Franks made the following statement regarding the rating:
“I have to say I do not vote with any rating system in mind, I just try my best to vote what I truly believe is best for this nation and for the people I represent.”
The National Journal has been releasing such ratings annually since 1981 and has set a standard of ideologically defining the two chambers of Congress. The scores are based on roll call votes in the areas of economics, social issues, and foreign policy.
