(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) today announced $2 million to support the development of the Garden Parkway in Gaston County. The funding is included in the Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report for FY04.
“One of my top priorities for Gaston County was securing funds for the Garden Parkway, and this will help to make it a reality,” said Myrick. “Not only will this provide needed relief for traffic congestion, but more importantly it will encourage business to come to Gaston County and locate around the Parkway.”
The Parkway will be an economic development tool for Gaston County. The multilane freeway will also provide additional traffic carrying capacity between Charlotte and Gastonia, NC.
Currently, environmental and planning studies on the Parkway are underway with completion anticipated in late 2006. The Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report has been filed with the Committee on Rules, and will be voted on by the House on December 8, 2003.
