Myrick Announces $10,000 NEA Grant to the Charlotte Philharmonic Society |

| (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Sue Myrick today announced that a $10,000 grant has been awarded to the Charlotte Philharmonic Society by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The money will be used to support the Charlotte Philharmonic’s Holiday Spectacular Concert, which includes The Nutcracker and Handel’s Messiah.
This is the first-ever NEA grant given to the Charlotte Philharmonic, and one of only 25 grants distributed nationwide. The NEA distributed the grants in an effort to support orchestras in communities traditionally underserved by the Arts Endowment. Myrick was very happy to assist the Charlotte Philharmonic in securing the grant. Upon hearing about the grant announcement, Rep. Myrick offered these statements. "The Charlotte Philharmonic Society has always put on performances that have culturally enriched our community, and they are certainly deserving of this grant. The NEA’s new Chairman, Dana Gioia, has a great vision for strengthening the arts in all communities and he is fulfilling that vision by giving this grant to the Charlotte Philharmonic so that they can once again give us a wonderful Holiday Concert." Upon hearing the grant was awarded to the Charlotte Philharmonic, Maestro Albert E. Moehring issued this statement. "The NEA's support for the Charlotte Philharmonic's Holiday Celebration 2003 is an opportunity for the Philharmonic to showcase our talented musicians and share our music with the rural Charlotte region. Our goal, since our first performance fourteen years ago, is to make the performing arts enjoyable and accessible to all people in the Charlotte region. We are the "People's Orchestra". ### |
