(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) voted for H.R. 2475, the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2006. This bill will make America safer by strengthening and reforming America’s intelligence community.
“The government’s number one job is to protect Americans. This bill will provide the intelligence community with the tools it needs to detect and eliminate threats,” said Rep. Myrick.
The Intelligence Authorization Act will balance intelligence resources and will strengthen human intelligence gathering. It increases the number of intelligence officers and establishes a long term counter terrorism program. It adds more linguists and analysts, and provides more funding for training officers. This bill will also fund research and development programs to develop new intelligence tools and will fund additional infrastructure needs.
This bill passed the House by a vote of 409-16.
