Congresswoman Myrick Helps to Secure Patrol Watercraft for the Cornelius Police Department
Yamaha Wave Runner Will Be On-Loan from Excel Motorsports of Concord, NC

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) announced that the Cornelius Police Department will receive a new on-water patrol vessel to enhance its law enforcement capabilities around Lake Cornelius this year.  This loan comes at a time when Cornelius officials have voiced concerns recently over the availability of financial resources needed to purchase such a boat.

“Thanks to a wonderful program offered by Yamaha, the Cornelius Police Department will receive a state-of-the-art vessel that will assist the department during busy weekends on the Lake,”said Rep. Myrick. “Tight budgets have made it hard for Cornelius to get a new vessel and I’m happy that my office could help them get this much-needed watercraft.”

The vessel will be on loan from Excel Motorsports of Concord, North Carolina to the Cornelius Police for one year.  The loan is made possible through the Congressional PWC Loan Program launched by industry manufacturers this year and made available to members of the Congressional Boating Caucus.  To date, manufacturers have loaned approximately 15,000 vessels to local police, fire, rescue and marine mammal research organizations across the country.

"We are delighted that Excel Motorsports was able to work with us to make this loan possible," said Maureen Healey, Executive Director of the Personal Watercraft Industry Association.  "This personal watercraft will enhance the Cornelius Police Department’s on-water capabilities and make the community safer."

Captain Jeff Ramsey expressed the Department’s appreciation for the loan, noting specifically that the size of the personal watercraft will allow deputies to transport the vessel on a trailer to areas where it is most needed and facilitate quick response time

“Cornelius waterways will be safer as a result of having this vessel patrolling the water,” Myrick concluded, “I fully support programs like this that bring industry together with the public safety community to better protect and serve our residents.”
