MYRICK QUESTIONS FORMER FEMA DIRECTOR MICHAEL BROWN ABOUT KATRINA RESPONSE

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) questioned former FEMA director Michael Brown about FEMA’s response to Hurricane Katrina.  Myrick sits on the Select Committee to Investigate the Preparation and Response to Hurricane Katrina, which asked Brown to testify.

At the hearing, many Members focused on Brown’s role and what went wrong.  Rep. Myrick took another approach.  Rather than playing the blame game, Rep. Myrick questioned Brown on the structure of FEMA and its bureaucracy in order to understand how to cut the bureaucratic red tape at FEMA.  People need to be helped faster and more efficiently in the future.

The Select Committee is tasked with finding the facts regarding the response to the Gulf’s devastation by Hurricane Katrina.  Rep. Myrick was appointed to this Committee by Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.  In the coming months, the committee will have more hearings to determine how America can better prepare for disasters in the future.
