(Washington, D.C.) – On Thursday, Rep. Sue Myrick (NC-9) voted for H.R. 4353, The Child Credit Preservation and Expansion Act of 2004. This bill ensures that hard working families continue to receive a $1,000 tax credit for each child.
The $1,000 Child Tax Credit was passed in the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003. If Congress had not passed this bill the Child Tax Credit would have declined to $700 per child in 2005, and would have vanished in 2010.
By passing H.R. 4359, Congress has prevented a tax hike next year of $610 on 30 million taxpayers with 49 million children. If this tax relief had not been made permanent, 34 million taxpayers with 59 million children would have faced a tax hike of $1,100 in 2010. The bill passed the House by a vote of 271-139.
