U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas is scheduled to appear in Woodward as part of a series of town hall meetings in West and Northwest Oklahoma. The Woodward meeting is scheduled for 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at High Plains Technology Center. In addition to Woodward, Lucas will hold Aug. 7 meetings in Guymon at 1 p.m. and Boise City at 4:30 p.m., and Aug. 8 meetings in Beaver at 10 a.m., Buffalo at 1:30 p.m., Shattuck at 3:30 p.m. and Cheyenne at 6 p.m. “I would like to extend an invitation to...one of my up coming town hall meetings,” Lucas said in a newsletter dated summer 2008. “Your input and opinions are very important in my representation of the Third Congressional District, and these town hall meetings are a great forum to share them.” Lucas conducts town hall meetings each year, at least one in each of the 32 counties in the Third District, according to his website. “I think he does about 50 per year,” said Leslie Shedd, Lucas’s press secretary. This round of meetings falls during the 5-week vacation the U.S. Congress traditionally takes every August. “The whole month of August is district work period,” Shedd said. “The congressmen go back to their districts...and meet with constituents and talk with people.” Shedd said Lucas will bring some talking points to the meeting. “Basically...recent issues that have been going on in Congress, especially things that are specifically affecting the Third District of Oklahoma,” she said. “Out here in Woodward County and the panhandle it’s going to be a lot more concern about the drought.” Shedd said Lucas will also discuss any issues raised and questions voiced by those in attendance. According to his website, Lucas has conducted town hall meetings throughout the Third District every year since first being elected to the U.S. Congress in a 1994 special election. No reservation is necessary to attend the meeting. # # # |
