Department of Transportation Funds to Be Used for Construction in Fontana

Rep. Baca Assists Local Officials in Ensuring Funds Will Be Used for Construction of I-10/ Cypress Avenue Interchange

Washington, DCToday, Congressman Joe Baca announced that federal transportation dollars given to the City of Fontana have been re-designated for construction of the I-10/Pepper Avenue Interchange, per the request of officials from the City of Fontana and the San Bernardino Association of Governments (SANBAG).

“I am proud to assist the City of Fontana in their attempts to re-designate vital federal transportation dollars,” said Rep. Baca.  “This funding is critical to the Inland Empire.  The new I-10/Cypress Avenue Interchange will reduce congestion and also improve the movement of goods through our area.”

The original earmark requests submitted by Rep. Baca for right-of-way acquisition assistance to the City of Fontana were included in the Department of Transportation’s Appropriations Acts for Fiscal Years 2003, 2005, and 2006.  Earlier this year, Rep. Baca petitioned the Federal Highway Administration, on behalf of the City of Fontana, to use these appropriated dollars for construction of the I-10/Cypress Avenue interchange instead.

“I applaud the Department of Transportation for their action on this matter,” concluded Rep. Baca.  “This funding will benefit the quality of life for Inland residents, and help to ensure our continued economic viability.  I look forward to continuing my work with officials from Fontana, and the other cities of the 43rd Congressional District, to fulfill the transportation needs of our area.”
