U.S. China Working Group

As co-chair of the bi-partisan U.S.-China Working Group, I am committed to increasing congressional involvement in the U.S.-China relationship, which will be the United States’ most important diplomatic relationship of the 21st century. Sixty Members of Congress with varying views of the U.S.-China relationship belong to the Working Group. The U.S.-China Working Group educates Members of Congress on U.S.-China issues through meetings and briefings with academic, business and political leaders from the United States and China.

Helping Washington State Small Businesses Export to China

China is the number one foreign market for Washington state products. China’s booming economy presents a growing export opportunity for small and medium sized businesses in Washington state. Together with colleagues from the U.S.-China Working Group, I have introduced legislation to help U.S. small and medium-sized businesses overcome barriers and access the China market. The legislation is part of the bi-partisan “U.S.-China Competitiveness Agenda for 2007” – a package of bills I introduced with my U.S.-China Working Group co-chair Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Working Group members Reps. Susan Davis (D-CA) and Steve Israel (D-NY). The four bills in the Competitiveness Agenda aim to help U.S. small and medium sized businesses succeed in China, expand our diplomatic infrastructure in China, boost Chinese language programs in the United States and expand U.S.-China cooperation on energy security and climate change.
