I offer internship opportunities during the summer as well as during the school year at my Washington D.C. Office and at my district offices in Staten Island and Brooklyn. 

Washington D.C.: 

My Washington internship program is designed to give the student a broad range of "hands on" experience in a Congressional office. The program enables the participant to work on a variety of current issues as well as experience the framework and workings of a professional office setting.

The educational component is of paramount importance. The internship allows the student to learn about my Washington and District offices and their duties; the legislative process; committee operation workings and responsibilities; computer training; the Library of Congress and its uses, and so forth.

During the internship, the student will be working on constituent responses, helping the legislative staff with specific assignments and providing support in administrative functions. Past interns have worked on such projects as legislative research, preparing for press conferences, organizing policy meetings and briefings and soliciting support for legislation.

By the end of the internship, the student should have a strong overview of the legislative process. The internship is a wonderful learning experience that gives the intern a marketable advantage upon graduation.

Staten Island or Brooklyn:

Volunteer interns are welcome throughout the school year and the summer in my Staten Island and Brooklyn offices. The work differs substantially from that in Washington. The staff in these offices mainly intervene on behalf of constituents to help resolve problems they are experiencing with the federal government.
