The War in Iraq

I am committed to ending the war in Iraq.

I have opposed the war from the beginning, voting against authorization for the preemptive unilateral attack on Iraq in October 2002. Unfortunately, the concerns I had then have come to pass—the lack of weapons of mass destruction, the failure to plan for the postwar situation, and the unprecedented decline of our nation’s standing around the world.

Our troops remain in constant danger and Iraq has now descended into civil war. Most tragically, more than 3,000 of our brave troops have been killed in Iraq, thousands more have been wounded, and countless Iraqi civilians have died.

I strongly oppose the President’s proposal to send additional troops to Iraq. Instead of escalating the war, I believe it is time to redeploy our troops out of Iraq. As a member of the Out of Iraq Caucus, I am working to end the war and begin bringing our troops home immediately.
