56th Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony Tickets

Thank you for your interest in obtaining tickets to the 56th Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony on January 20, 2009 in Washington D.C. I appreciate your interest in attending this historic event. My office is accepting requests from residents of the 23rd Congressional District. Please note that I have already received many more requests for tickets than will be available. The deadline to request tickets from my office is 5 pm P.S.T. Friday, November 21st, 2008.

All official tickets to the Swearing-In Ceremonies are provided free of charge. Please note that there have been widespread reports of fraudulent offers of various Inaugural tickets for sale.

My office, along with each Member of the House of Representatives, will receive only 198 tickets to the Inaugural Ceremonies. Many times that number of people have already contacted my office to request tickets.

Consequently, a lottery system will be used to distribute available tickets to constituents who have requested them. If you are selected to receive tickets you will be notified by my staff by the first week of December.

Please be advised that January weather in Washington, D.C. is almost always very cold (low 30’s) and wet with a strong possibility of snow. This is important to know because ticketed attendees to the Swearing-In Ceremony will be standing outside in the cold for at least three to five hours.

Of course, all ticketed attendees will be required to go through a vigorous security screening. In addition, the JCCIC has advised that due to security concerns, there will be no food, beverages, strollers, large backpacks or purses permitted in the ticketed viewing area. All children old enough to walk will be required to have a ticket to enter the ticketed viewing area.

Also, please note that my office will only have tickets for the Swearing-In Ceremony. My office will not have tickets to any other Inaugural events, including the post Swearing-In Parade or Presidential Inaugural Balls.

The JCCIC estimates that as many as two million people will be attending the Inauguration and related events in Washington, D.C., so local hotel rooms and flights to the Washington area will fill up very quickly and will be costly.
