Loan to Bring High-Speed Internet to Central Minnesota

Washington DC – A federally-backed loan will help improve phone and Internet service in Central Minnesota.  Today, Congressman Jim Oberstar announced that the U.S. Rural Development Administration (USRDA) has approved a loan of $22.2 million to the West Central Telephone Association.

Help With Heating Bills Is On the Way

Oberstar: Tough Fine Sends Strong Pipeline Safety Message

Washington DC – Congressman Jim Oberstar says a proposed $2.4 million fine will send a strong message to pipeline companies about safety.  The federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration today recommended the fine after a 10 month investigation into a November 28, 2007, explosion at an Enbridge Energy pipeline in Clearwater, Minnesota that claimed the lives of two workers.

Oberstar Bill Gives Surplus Armory Building to Koochiching County

Washington DC – Koochiching County will own the old National Guard armory building in International Falls.  This week the U.S. Senate unanimously passed Congressman Jim Oberstar’s bill to transfer the property to county control.  The President is expected to sign the bill in the next two weeks.
