Mica Works to Help
Boys & Girls Club in West Augustine

U.S. Rep. John L. Mica (FL-7) met today with representatives from the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida, Boys & Girls Club of St. Augustine and the West Augustine CRA today to discuss the progress of the new Boys & Girls Club facility to be located in West Augustine near Chase Park.

Congressman Mica said, “The Boys & Girls Club provide a vital service for the children in West Augustine.”  Mica added, “I want to make sure that we are doing everything we possibly can to make this a reality sooner rather than later.”

Currently, the Club is using space donated by the Florida Low Income Housing Association.  With funds from the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida, contributions from the community,  as well as federal assistance secured by Rep. Mica, the Club provides mentor and after-school activities for low income adolescents in the West Augustine community.

The new facility will be 15,500 square feet with a basketball court, exercise facilities and rooms for after-school programs.  The Club currently has $950,000 in pledged support needs an additional $850,000

“I am committed to securing additional federal assistance for this priority,” Mica concluded.  “I commend the Boys & Girls Club, local, state and private sector leaders for their efforts.  Working together, we can improve the standard of living and the quality of life in West St. Augustine.”

Rep. Mica has been working with St. Johns County leaders and community activists to secure federal assistance as part of an overall effort to improve St. Johns - especially the West Augustine area.
