What is RSS?

Basic Explanation - RSS is a simple way to get popup notices on the desktop of your computer notifying you when new news items or speeches have been added to Congressman McDermott's website.

Technical Explanation - An RSS file is a list of headlines encoded so that it can be easily used by another program. RSS is usually said to stand for "Really Simple Syndication." RSS is a form of XML (eXtensible Markup Language), which means that each piece of data in the list — a headline, a description of a story — is coded separately so that a program will know exactly what to do with it.

RSS feeds can only be read by browser-like reader applications such as Netscape and Internet Explorer. Feed readers give you the flexibility to set-up how often to check for new items on Congressman McDermott's website.

There are many news reader applications available for free download or for purchase on the Internet. Below are a few web resources that list a number of news readers available for download.
