CONGRESSMAN DAVIS ANNOUNCES OVER $100K FOR THE BLACK WARRIOR RIVER SCENIC CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

WASHINGTON  -- Congressman Artur Davis is pleased to announce that the Federal Highway Administration has awarded the Alabama Department of Transportation $109,600 for the Black Warrior River Scenic Corridor Management Program.

The Black Warrior River Scenic Corridor encircles 12 miles of road on both sides of the Black Warrior River.  The route stretches from Capitol Park in Tuscaloosa, continues along Jack Warner Parkway to the Bryant Bridge, and then follows Rice Mine Road to Northport and then loops back to the Capitol Park via the Hugh Thomas Bridge.  The funds will provide for the development of byway signage to mark the path around the river and the production of promotional brochures to provide information about the historical and natural significance of the area.  The Corridor Management Plan also supplies a long-term strategy for the conservation and enhancement of the byway's intrinsic qualities as well as the promotion of tourism and economic development.

Capitol Park was the site of the Alabama state capitol from 1826 to 1846 before the state seat was relocated to Montgomery, AL.  The public park now contains remnants of the bricks and columns that once comprised the capitol.

For more information about the Black Warrior River Scenic Corridor Management Program, please contact Teresa Lewis with the City of Tuscaloosa at 205-248-5080.
