2nd District of California

About California's 2nd District

The Second District of California is located in rural Northern California. Stretching over 250 miles from north to south, the district is comprised of all or parts of ten counties--Siskiyou, Trinity, Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Yuba, Sutter, and Yolo. Nearly 22,000 square miles, the district is larger than nine states. The primary population centers are the cities of Redding and Chico, as well as the Yuba City/Marysville areas.

Agriculture has been and continues to be a prominent way of life in Northern California. Generation upon generation has relied upon the fertile lands found throughout the district to raise a diverse selection of crops and livestock. Rice, peaches, cattle, walnuts, and almonds are just some of the major agriculture commodities in the Second Congressional District, making it one of the nation's richest agricultural areas.

The northern part of the District consists of extensive mountain ranges, with timber as a leading commodity. Mt. Shasta is a landmark well known to residents of Siskiyou County and surrounding areas, stretching over 14,000 feet into the sky.

Northern California is also home to our nation's leading high-altitude reconnaissance base. Beale Air Force Base, located in Yuba County, is the "crown jewel of the Air Force" and is home to approximately 3,500 members of our United States Air Force. The U-2 spy plane and the Global Hawk, both vital tools in the ongoing War on Terrorism, are stationed at Beale.

From mountains to forests, rivers to lakes, Northern California is one of the most naturally beautiful areas in the United States. The Second Congressional District contains all or part of eight national forests.  Those forests are: the Klamath, the Six Rivers, the Shasta-Trinity, the Mendocino, the Plumas, the Lassen, the Tahoe, and the Modoc.
