WASHINGTON, D.C. -- STARK RESPONDS TO THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION’S THREAT TO VETO LEGISLATION THAT WOULD PROVIDE HEALTH CARE TO MILLIONS OF KIDS AND PROTECT MEDICARE FOR THE FUTURE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Pete Stark, Chairman of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, today released a fiction vs. fact chart to highlight the inaccuracies, lies, and hypocrisies contained in Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt’s letter to Ways and Means Chairman Rangel threatening to veto the Children’s Health and Medicare Protection Act (H.R. 3162).

The chart is available here.

The Ways and Means Committee on Thursday night passed the CHAMP Act by a 24 to 17 vote and forwarded the bill to the full House of Representatives for consideration. Prior to being elected Governor of Utah, Secretary Leavitt served as the Chief Executive Officer of an insurance firm in the state.

“Secretary Leavitt better stay in politics,” said Stark. “If he reads insurance laws the way he read the CHAMP Act, he’d lose his broker’s license in Utah.”
