STARK RESPONDS TO CLIMATE CHANGE REPORT
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Representative Pete Stark (D-CA) today responded to the release of an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report that found that humans are responsible for global warming.
“The IPCC report confirms what Republicans in Congress and the business industry denies,” said Stark. “Human activity is responsible for global warming, which is already making hurricanes more intense, melting polar ice caps, and raising the sea level. Rather than set long-term benchmarks for which he cannot be held accountable, President Bush should work with the Democratic Congress to immediately reduce America’s carbon dioxide emissions. Toward that end, and to promote the development and use of renewable energy technologies, I will soon introduce legislation to tax coal, petroleum, and natural gas based on their carbon content.”
