STARK APPLAUDS HISTORIC INCREASE IN FUEL EFFICIENCY STANDARDS
Energy Legislation Would Reduce Greenhouse Gases, Create Jobs
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Pete Stark (D-CA) today celebrated Congressional passage of the Energy Independence and Security Act (H.R. 6).
“Higher fuel efficiency standards are long overdue,” said Stark. “Increasing fuel efficiency to 35 miles per gallon will significantly reduce our oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It will also create tens of thousands of clean energy jobs in California and save families hundreds of dollars a year at the pump. Though today’s bill does too much to promote ethanol-based fuels and does not go far enough to encourage renewable energy, it is a tremendous step forward for our environment. I applaud Congress’ historic energy legislation and encourage my colleagues to consider a carbon tax as an even more robust response to global warming.”
