CONGRESSMAN DAN BURTON APPLAUDS THE REMOVAL OF THE BANS ON OFFSHORE AND OIL SHALE ENERGY PRODUCTION

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN-05] today declared victory for Hoosiers as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her Democrat colleagues capitulated to the demands of Republicans and the American people by removing the bans on offshore and oil shale energy production from their continuing resolution appropriations legislation. Burton said:

“In recent months I, along with my Republican colleagues have been fighting every day to have these outdated, impractical, even harmful bans lifted. I am proud of our efforts and, more importantly, I am glad that this removal of the offshore drilling ban may finally lead towards energy independence and some much needed relief for Hoosiers at the gas pump.

“It is important to note that this is only one small step in the right direction. We must adopt a comprehensive energy strategy that expands energy conservation, promotes renewable and alternative energy technologies and increases the supply of all forms of American energy. Such a plan will not only lower these out-of-control energy prices immediately, but it will also provide Americans with real energy independence.”
