WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) announced today that the city of Jonesboro will receive a $1,600,000 grant from the United States Department of Commerce’s (DOC) Economic Development Administration. The funding will be used to construct a rail spur and road improvements necessary to expand the Craighead Technology Industrial Park in Jonesboro.
“Northeast Arkansas will benefit greatly from these funds, and I’m pleased to see the federal government make this investment in our state. Not only will this money help create job opportunities, it will also enhance critical infrastructure in the area. I will continue to work to secure funds and resources to keep our state strong,” said Lincoln.
“These federal funds will pay off in dividends for the city of Jonesboro and our state,” said Pryor. “Local transportation infrastructure improvements will create hundreds of new jobs and bring economic development opportunities across northeast Arkansas.”
“These infrastructure improvements are critical in helping the First District grow and compete in the global marketplace,” said Berry. “These federal dollars will help create hundreds of jobs and will allow millions in private investments to be leveraged.”
DOC Economic Development grants promote innovation through long-term, coordinated and collaborative regional economic development approaches, with the goal of competing in a worldwide business community.
