Danville Regional Airport was a success and served to enhance Southcentral
Virginia. Scores of aviation-related corporations from around the nation
came to the event, and many spoke of how impressed they are with the concerted
effort that is being made to enhance the economy of the area. Among the
thousands who attended the three-day event were the Administrator of NASA,

Marion Blakey.
For those who do not know, SATS
stand for Small Aircraft Transportation System. The Demonstration was
of four technologies that allow small aircraft to use the more than 5,000
small airports across the United States, even if the fields are not equipped
with towers or instrument landing systems. Some of the new airplanes were
on view at the Demonstration, and the research has yielded cockpits with
screens similar to those found on the dashboards of many new automobiles
today.
