Building 460 Contract Awarded
11/24/2008 – Following a suggestion by U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks and Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman, the Navy has agreed to paint and refurbish the historic Building 460 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

10/16/2008 – Concentrate on catching terrorists and smugglers, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said he's told the Border Patrol. "Those are the things they should be focusing on," Dicks told the Peninsula Daily News during a wide-ranging interview Wednesday. Dicks, D-Belfair, said he had heard of citizens who felt intimidated by recent Border Patrol roadblocks on U.S. Highway 101.

10/3/2008 – Amid the sharp debate over the emergency economic stabilization bill being considered this week in Congress we have heard dire predictions from both extremes warning of a financial Armageddon if we don’t approve the bill or of squandering billions of taxpayer dollars if we do.  Beyond the intense rhetoric though, there is a growing body of evidence of serious impacts in every American community this month as the shrinking credit market has already affected consumers’ ability to buy cars, purchase inventory for their businesses, afford college loans and obtain home mortgages.

9/24/2008 – Specific language contained in the final version of the Defense Authorization bill approved today by the House of Representatives will assure that the next competition for the Air Force’s refueling tankers will take into account launch subsidies provided to Airbus aircraft by the consortium’s European partners, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said Wednesday.

Norm Attends Opening of New Lakewood Transit Center
9/20/2008 – Congressman Norm Dicks attended the ribbon cutting of the new Lakewood Station parking garage and transit center. The new facility will play an integral role in expanding transportation options available to area residents by centralizing area bus services and offering Sounder commuter train service by 2012.

Norm Receives USGS Coalition Award
9/15/2008 – At a Capitol Hill ceremony on Sept. 15th Rep. Dicks received the first USGS Leadership Award from the national coalition that supports the U.S. Geological Survey’s scientific research and information sharing work.   Coalition Co-Chair Dr. Craig Schiffries cited Rep. Dicks’ career-long advocacy of good science as the foundation for governmental decisions relating to land management and natural resource policy. 

Norm Test Drives New Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle
9/11/2008 – Ed Cohen, Honda North America Vice President of Government and Industry Affairs, brought the Honda FCX Clarity to Capitol Hill for a demonstration of the capability of fuel cell powered automobiles.  As Congress is debating an energy bill that seeks to reduce our dependence on imported oil, Norm had the opportunity to experience first-hand this new technology that uses zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell in this all-electric car that gets the equivalent of 79 miles per gallon.

Tanker Competition Pushed to Next Administration
9/10/2008 – Press Release: The Defense Department today cancelled the competition between the Boeing Company and the EADS/Northrop Grumman Corp. for the production of new air refueling tankers.

Area School Receives Science Award
9/9/2008 – Rep. Dicks meets with representatives from Key Peninsula Middle School in Lakebay, who were in the Nation’s Capital on Sept. 8th to receive a “Schools of Distinction” Award as part of a nationwide math and science competition sponsored by the Intel Corporation. Schools receiving the awards, which consist of $10,000 in addition products and services from competition sponsors, are commended for developing an environment and curricula that meet or exceed national mathematics and science content standards and other benchmarks.
