 Official U.S. Flags flown over the Capitol Building are a great way to commemorate a special occasion, or to honor a loved one. Flags are available in cotton or nylon and in varying sizes (3x5, 4x6 and 5x8). There is a nominal fee associated with this activity which is passed on to the constituent. Flags can be flown on specific dates, if desired; however, the request must be submitted four to six weeks in advance. Please note that that our office cannot guarantee the delivery of flags by specific dates, ceremonies, or occasions.
Each flag includes a certificate of recognition which can be dedicated to a particular individual or group. A typical certificate might read as follows:
"This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol on .
At the request of the Honorable Norman D. Dicks, Member of Congress, this flag was flown for John Doe in recognition of time served during World War II."
If you wish to purchase a flag that has been flown over the Capitol, please complete the following steps:
- Print and complete a Flag Request Form (PDF). Please print clearly.
- Make a check or money order payable to "Rep. Norm Dicks Office Supply" for the appropriate amount. Please do not send cash.
- Send the completed form along with the check to:

Please be aware that due to security concerns all mail sent to the Washington, DC office is delayed in order to be opened and tested at an offsite facility for potentially hazardous materials. As a result, all mail takes an extra 1-2 weeks to reach us.
