Named for either the "union" of fragments from Grainger, Claiborne, Campbell, Anderson and Knox counties in 1850 or the strong belief during the ante-bellum era in preserving the Federal Union, Union County today is rich in beauty, natural resources, history, and tradition. Home to parks and resort areas, camping and water sport facilities, and the nature haven on the Chuck Swan Management Area, Union County is an attractive place to live or vacation. The county is comprised of the community areas of Braden, Sharps Chapel, Big Ridge, Maynardville, Luttrell, and Plainview. It is also the home of several people prominent in the world of country music, including Roy Acuff, Carl Smith, Lois Johnson, Bill Lynch, Chet Atkins and Kenny Chesney.  For more information, please visit the following sites: Union County Government  Union County Public Schools
