One of my favorite "duties" as your representative in Washington is working with outstanding young people who are interested in attending one of our United States Service Academies.

To be considered for admission to a service academy, you must meet all eligibility requirements, qualify medically, pass a physical aptitude test, and obtain a nomination from the Member of Congress representing the district in which you live.

All prospective candidates should request a pre-candidate questionnaire from each of the academies to which you would consider a nomination. It is important to establish a file with the academies, as well as with this office. The phone numbers and addresses of the academies follow:

The Third Congressional District Service Academy Program is designed to encourage all likely candidates for the service academies, irrespective of race, gender, or political persuasion to apply for a nomination to make sure the best qualified candidates from our district enter the academies each year.

To apply for a nomination to a service academy, please print the application below and return it to my Oak Ridge district office. All information is due by the last working day in October for applicants applying to enter the following year. It is your responsibility as the applicant to make sure all required information is received in a timely manner. I encourage you to call my office and check the status of your file.

All qualified applicants will be interviewed by the Third District Service Academy Military Review Panel. Interviews are held the second Saturday in November in the Chattanooga office and the third Saturday in the in the Oak Ridge office. The interview will last for fifteen minutes, so be prepared to answer questions about yourself and your desire to enter a service academy. You will be notified of your interview time soon after the deadline.

This is a competitive process, and only the most qualified young men and women are chosen for this honor. My nomination does not guarantee you an appointment by an academy. If you have any questions about this process, please contact my Service Academy Coordinator in the Oak Ridge office 1-800-883-2369 or by email, gina.mcmahan@mail.house.gov. I look forward to working with you.

Please submit all information to:
