WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) issues this statement after voting for the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act as it was approved in the House of Representatives by a vote of 263 to 171:
“The workforce numbers released today – 159,000 jobs lost in September, the ninth straight downturn month, with 6.1 percent unemployment – came just hours before the bailout vote and underscored the deepening crisis facing every part of our economy. I voted for the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act today because Wall Street’s blunders and greed are devastating to many of my constituents and those like them everywhere. They are the ones in need of relief. A yes vote was the responsible vote on a bill full of tough medicine.”
