Spratt Honors Disabled Veterans

WASINGTON – U.S. Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) this week voted to honor America’s disabled veterans.

Spratt joined his House colleagues in passing a resolution to recognize the sacrifices made by disabled veterans and their families.  House Concurrent Resolution 336 calls on the people of the United States to honor all disabled American veterans; encourages local, state, and national organizations to participate in the effort to honor the sacrifices of America's disabled veterans; and supports the goals and ideals of a Disabled American Veterans' Week.

There are approximately 2.8 million veterans receiving benefits from the Veterans Affairs Department for disabilities incurred while defending our nation. The current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have resulted in 30,000 American veterans wounded or hurt in combat operations.

Spratt, who chairs the House Budget Committee, said, “This is why I have included in our budgets for 2008 and 2009 major increases in funding for veterans’ health care.  Our veterans earned and deserve this kind of care and support.”
