The 34th Congressional district is a vibrant, diverse area encompassing urban downtown Los Angeles and suburban communities. The largely Hispanic constituency is hard-working and upwardly mobile.

Cities and Communities in the 34th Congressional District

The multicultural 34th Congressional district contains metropolitan downtown Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, Little Tokyo, Pico Union, and portions of Chinatown, Filipinotown, Koreatown, and Westlake. The suburban portions of the district include the cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Maywood, Downey, Bellflower, and Vernon and the unincorporated areas of East Los Angeles, Walnut Park and Florence.

The 34th Congressional district is also home to the area's courthouses, Los Angeles City Hall, the offices of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Los Angeles Unified School District, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

In addition, the 34th Congressional district boasts a multitude of cultural resources. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Shrine Auditorium, Latino Museum, Chinese American Museum, Japanese American National Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art are located in Congresswoman Roybal-Allard's district.

Doing Business and Making a Home in the 34th Congressional District

The Southeast Corridor of the 34th Congressional District is a key component of Los Angeles County's commercial development and housing markets. Huntington Park's Pacific Boulevard commercial district is the third highest grossing commercial district in the County of Los Angeles. The Southeast cities and Boyle Heights are highly desirable regions for first-time homeowners. Home buying in these areas has revitalized the housing market in Los Angeles county over the past several years.

The People of the 34th Congressional District

The 34th Congressional district reflects the wonderful diversity of America's people. There is a mixture of newly-arrived immigrants families and a strong, established Hispanic community. Ethnic enclaves, like Chinatown, Koreatown, and Japantown, house specialty stores and restaurants that cater to the area's thriving Asian community.
