Statement on the Supreme Court's Decision Regarding Guantanamo Bay Detainees

“Judicial decisions and legislative actions regarding the detention of enemy combatants currently held at Guantanamo Bay should be made with the utmost caution and deliberation.  A report released by the Department of Defense estimates that at least thirty former Guantanamo Bay detainees, upon their repatriation, have taken part in militant activities against the United States and coalition forces.  The Administration and Congress must abide by the Supreme Court’s decision as we search for the proper balance between the rights of these non-citizen detainees and the national security interests of the United States.”
