Information about Inauguration Tickets

UPDATE

Thank you for your interest in the upcoming Presidential Inauguration. I have received over 1,500 requests for tickets from my constituents. The Presidential Inaugural Committee has released less than 200 tickets to my office for distribution. We will be contacting those people who have already requested tickets - in the order the requests were received - in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, not everyone who put in a request will receive a ticket due to the large number of inquiries. For those of you who were unable to secure a ticket, there are areas along the National Mall (where jumbo screens will be set up) and parade route where tickets are not required for entry. For more information on these opportunities, please see the information below. Once again, thank you for your interest in this historic event.

2009 Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.
The office of Congressman John J. Duncan Jr.

The Capitol building will be closed from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009, until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. No members of the public will be allowed inside the building during that time for any reason. Public tours of the Capitol building will resume on Thursday, January 22.

Our office highly recommends that you utilize public transportation while visiting Washington, D.C. for the Inauguration. Multiple several streets will be closed to the public around the National Mall and Capitol. There will be no parking available, and city officials are anticipating as many as 4 million people for the festivities.

If you were unable to obtain tickets to the Inauguration, there will be several areas open to the public where tickets are not required. The streets and sidewalks will be open to the public for standing room only from 4th Street and beyond coming away from the Capitol building. The lower half of the National Mall will have multiple jumbo screens set up for Inauguration viewing. There will also be areas along the parade route for public viewing.

We have been advised that it will not be possible to attend both the Inauguration and the parade. One the speech is over, areas along the parade route will already be full and closed off.

More information is available from the Presidential Inauguration Committee as well as the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

Please anticipate altered hours of operation for many of Washington’s normal attractions.
