Touring Biotech and High-Tech Companies in Bothell

17 December 2003

On Monday and Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee visited local biotech and high-tech companies in the Canyon Park business center in Bothell. Canyon Park is home to many of the First Congressional District's, and the nation’s, most cutting edge technology companies, employing thousands of highly trained individuals and offering the potential to be a primary economic growth engine for our state. During his visit to these local companies, Inslee learned much about their pioneering work, including: Eden Bioscience’s award-winning plant protein, named Messenger, which increases plant growth and health; Blue Heron Biotechnology’s unique “Genemaker” technology and other methods of synthesizing full length genes; Philips Medical System’s dynamic ultrasound medical imaging systems; and Seattle Genetics’ cancer-fighting drug research. In addition to those companies, Inslee also toured Aculight, Sonus Pharmaceuticals, ICOS Corporation, Berlex Laboratories and Ceptyr, Inc.

Sonus Pharmaceuticals is utilizing its proprietary TOCOSOL™ drug delivery technology to make therapeutic drugs safer, easier to administer and potentially more effective. The company’s lead product, TOCOSOL Paclitaxel, is a novel reformulation of paclitaxel, one of the most widely prescribed anti-cancer drugs.
