Funding for First District Transportation Priorities

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee announced that he has secured much needed funding for transportation priorities in the First Congressional District under a bill that the House passed today. The federal funding is part of the Transportation Equity Act (TEA-21), which the President will soon sign into law. The bill authorizes $286.5 billion in federal funding for highways, ferries and transit programs through the year 2009.

$4.89 Million Grant for Mountlake Terrace Park & Ride Expansion

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee announced today that Community Transit will be receiving $4.89 million from the Department of Transportation for the expansion of the Mountlake Terrace Park & Ride. The funding will be used for the construction of a parking garage as part of the enhanced Park & Ride facility. This grant completes the federal earmark portion of the funding for the project.

House Passes Local Transportation Projects

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a transportation bill that includes crucial funding that U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee has requested for high priority transit project in Snohomish, King and Kitsap counties. The Transportation Equity Act (H.R. 3) passed the House today by a vote of 417 to 9.

Local Transportation Projects

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee announced that his requested funding for key local transportation projects will be included in a transportation bill that will be voted on by the House of Representatives next week. Funding to complete the Shoreline Interurban Trail was included, as were significant allotments for the U.W.-Bothell/Cascadia interchange and the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) railroad trestle and bridge project in Woodinville. The legislation also contains $430 million in funding for the national ferry system that Inslee and other delegation Members requested.

Transportation Update

Investment in our surface transportation infrastructure will help to ease congestion, improve roadway safety, and prevent further deterioration of our roadway system. I am hopeful that we will be able to provide a reauthorization package that will adequately address these needs.

Reimbursing State for Increased Ferry Security Costs

Inslee and other Members of the Washington State delegation sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security today urging the Department to reimburse Washington State for the additional operational expenses incurred during the period of increased ferry security screenings between April 22 and August 2, 2004.

This afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 357-65 to pass the Transportation Equity Act (H.R. 3550). In response to U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee’s requests, funding for several local projects is included in the bill.The bill passed the House despite the President’s veto threat.

Sounder Everett to Seattle Commuter Rail

Inslee hailed the recent agreement between Sound Transit and Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) Railway, which enables the Sounder to be expanded into Snohomish County. Congressman Inslee has worked with the involved parties and encouraged them to reach an amicable agreement on this project.

Ferry Security Funding Amendment Passes House

[ 5 November, 2003 ]

The U.S. House of Representatives successfully passed, by a bipartisan voice vote, an amendment offered by U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee to help ensure federal funding for ferry security measures.Inslee’s amendment to the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2003 will give passenger ferries priority in receiving grants from the federal government to pay for the cost of increased security measures. The amendment was combined with other bipartisan proposals and offered on the floor by Rep. Don Young (R), Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Roadway Safety Legislation

[ 9 January 2003 ]

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee introduced the Roadway Safety and Congestion Mitigation Improvements Act. This legislation will invest $3 billion annually in upgrading our nation's roadway safety infrastructure. "Traffic safety and congestion trouble everyone using our roads, and these problems will only escalate without an investment in our infrastructure," said Inslee. "More than half of daily traffic congestion is tied to roadway incidents, but many of these incidents could easily be reduced or eliminated by improving our infrastructure."

Voting for Ferry Safety Legislation

Late last night, U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee voted to pass the successful "Maritime Transportation Security Act" through the House of Representatives on a voice vote. "I strongly support appropriate efforts to enhance the Washington State Ferry security programs and to protect individuals commuting on those ferries. In implementing security improvements, however, significant local involvement is absolutely necessary."

Inslee Announces $6 Million for Shoreline's Aurora Project

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee announced that the Transportation Conference Report, which passed in the House, includes $6 million in federal funds for the Aurora Corridor Project in Shoreline. Inslee has been personally involved with this project. He has toured the site with Shoreline local officials. The new funds are a victory because last year the Aurora Project did not receive any federal funds. Furthermore, this year the President did not request funds for this project, and previous versions of the House and Senate Transportation bill did not include any funds for this project.
