Interior endorses national park designation for Bainbridge memorial

The Interior Department released a long-awaited report, supporting the inclusion of a memorial at the former Eagledale Ferry Dock that honors the first Japanese Americans interned during World War II in the national park system, as part of the Minidoka Internment National Monument in Idaho.

Inslee calls for inclusion of Bainbridge Island memorial in national park system

Sixty-four years after the first Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps from Bainbridge Island, U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee urged the Department of the Interior to include the ferry dock from which these internees left for Manzanar Relocation Center in the national park system.

Pritchard Park Funding Passes Senate

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee is pleased to announce that the U.S. Senate approved $2 million to acquire land for Pritchard Park on Bainbridge Island. The park funding is in the Omnibus appropriations bill, which was passed the House of Representatives in late December, and the bill is now on its way to the President’s desk.U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell were instrumental in obtaining funding for the park in the Senate version of the bill.

Enthusiasm for Future Pritchard Park

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee, Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell today commended recent steps taken by the Trust for Public Land and the City of Bainbridge Island towards protecting historic property on Bainbridge Island for a future park. The property is adjacent to the planned Japanese-American internment memorial, where hundreds of Japanese-American citizens were rounded up at the former Eagledale ferry dock and sent to internment camps during World War II.
