After-School Activities Report

Having three boys of our own has taught Trudi and I that parents today need help providing safe, supervised activities for children between the hours when school lets out and when parents return home from work. Not surprisingly, after-school hours present the most risk to our children. Crime against children, teenage pregnancy, and juvenile drug use most often occur between the hours of 2pm and 8pm. After-school activities are vitally important to our families. Kids need activities that will involve them in the community, and help keep them out of trouble. Safe and supervised after-school activities for youth will benefit the entire community.

Family Planning

U.S. Rep. Inslee believes that there are strong beliefs on both sides of the abortion debate that deserve respect. The United States Supreme Court determined in 1973 in Roe v. Wade that a woman's right of choice is protected by the U.S. Constitution. The court ruled that this decision should be left up to the judgment of a woman in consultation with her doctor, her family, her conscience and her religious beliefs. Inslee believes that the Roe v. Wade decision must be preserved and respected, and supports efforts to promote international family planning and maternal and child health care.

Inslee Spear-heads Effort to Fund Senior Coordinated Grant

Inslee fought for, and received, a $500,000 Senior Coordinated Grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This grant, awarded to the King County Housing Authority, will be allocated to residents to occasionally check in with their elderly neighbors, and assist them as necessary. This type of assistance allows elderly residents the independence of living on their own with the security of knowing that, should they need that extra bit of help, it is available.
