    McIntyre Supports Drilling Bill;
    Wants Congress To Do Even More and Ensure We Become Energy Independent

    Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre voted in support of a comprehensive energy package, H.R. 6899, that brings the U.S. a step closer to energy independence.  This comprehensive energy package supports drilling, expands domestic production, supports renewable energy development, and encourages conservation.

                While Congressman McIntyre has co-sponsored another bi-partisan bill that would have opened up even more access to drilling, he said that this bill helps move the opportunity for drilling forward.  He also wants revenue sharing for coastal communities.  McIntyre stated, “Our coastal areas should be able to share in the royalties generated for their economic development, beach restoration, dredging, and environmental protection.”

                McIntyre continued, “The U.S. House passed an energy bill today that takes a step forward toward true energy independence.  It is imperative that we open more areas to responsible domestic drilling to ensure that we have a safe, reliable source of petroleum while also investing in the development of renewable energy sources that will power our future.”

                H.R. 6899 opens the largest amount of land offshore for oil and gas development in our nation’s history.  In addition, it taps into the potential 1.8 trillion barrels of oil in Western oil shale, while providing $18 billion in tax incentives for renewable energy technology and improved energy efficiencies.
