Academy Nominations

Each year, Members of Congress have the privilege of recommending a select group of people for admission to the four U.S. service academies - U.S. Military Academy (Army), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must be between the ages of 17 and 23 (25 for Merchant Marines), a citizen of the United States, unmarried with no dependents, medically and physically fit, and have a strong academic background and test scores.

Competition for the limited number of appointments is strong. Students interested in attending one of the academies should contact Congressman Snyder's district office by the spring of their junior year in high school. Applicants must be residents of Arkansas's 2nd Congressional District. Graduates of the service academies are required to serve as a commissioned officer for at least five years upon graduation.

The annual application deadline is November 30, 2008 for submission of materials for the next year’s entering class. Applicants should also contact the service academies to begin their initial application.

Please contact Devon Cockrell in my district office at 501-324-5941 for more information.
