Davis (IL-07) at the 50th Anniversary Commemorating the Little Rock Nine and the 1957 desegregation of Central Arkansas.Located in the center of the state and divided in half by the Arkansas river, the Second District covers approximately 6045 square miles and includes Little Rock, the state’s population center and capital. Eight counties, reflecting the diverse constituency I represent, make up the Second District.

The Second District encompasses the bustle and beauty of the South. Central Arkansas is a lovely place to enjoy friendly hospitality, spring flowers and fall foliage, art and antique shops, town and county fairs, and delicious food. Little Rock, along side the Arkansas river, is home to a thriving downtown, many restaurants, fun nightlife, and the Clinton Presidential Library.

The Second District is blessed with the natural beauty of the scenic Arkansas River front, riverside parks, Pinnacle and Petit Jean mountains, and Fairfield Bay on the shore of Greer’s Ferry Lake.

In addition, our district offers rich educational opportunities including Arkansas Baptist College, Arkansas State University-Beebe, Arkansas State University-Searcy, Clinton School of Public Service, Harding University, Hendrix College, Philander Smith College, Pulaski Technical College, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the University of Central Arkansas. As a doctor, I take pride in my district being the home to the University of Arkansas Medical School, the state’s largest basic and applied research institution, Arkansas Children's Hospital, the only pediatric medical center in Arkansas, and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, one of the largest and busiest VA medical centers in the country.

The two military installations located in the Second District, Camp Robinson and the Little Rock Air Force Base provide jobs, training, and education for many district residents. The Arkansas National Guard also plays an important role in our national defense, with the state headquarters in North Little Rock.

Boasting a broad range of developing industries and agriculture, the Second District is an economic pillar of Arkansas. Alltel, Acxiom, and the Little Rock Port draw much business to our area. Also, our attractive district is increasingly becoming a hub for International business with innovative companies, such as LM Glasfiber, Man Industries, Tokusen, and Welspun, locating their American offices in our district. In addition, nonprofit organizations, like Camp Aldersgate, Heifer International, Winrock International, and Winrock farms, maintain their national headquarters in the Second District.
