Science

Over 30 years ago, the world held its breath as three of our nation's heroes manned the Apollo 11 program, defying the limits of modern technology and the reach of our imagination by landing on the moon. It was not just the accomplishment of the mission, but the boldness of its vision that we must live up to today.

The challenges we face in this century will test the ingenuity and innovation of our great nation. It will take no less than the faith and determination that put us on the moon to find the cures for today's diseases, take strides against global climate change and move our nation towards energy independence. In Tennessee, advancements in alternative fuels are under way at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, while Tennesseans now can power their cars on E85 ethanol from fueling stations across the State.

I am proud to support the research behind such admirable goals and will continue to work in the House to fully fund the efforts towards this country's scientific achievement.
